Part I. Question 3: Compare & Contrast Age of Exploration with the Imperlism of Africa

Age of Exploration also known as the Age of Discovery was a period from the early 15th century and 16th century during which Europeans countries traveled around the world in search for new trade routes and countries to imperialize. The most valuable trading goods were gold, silver and spices. The Age of exploration was caused by the new technology and ideas developed during the renaissance. Another cause is the crusades, after the crusades philosophers wanted to start looking for answers and merchant wanted to start new businesses, also Europeans wanted to spread christianity.

The Scramble for Africa, also known as the Race for Africa was when the European countries claimed the African territory during the new Imperialism period between the 1880’s. The scramble for Africa was caused because back in Europe the Industrial Revolution was going on so factory owners need materials for their products. Africa had many natural resources which attracted European countries like Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, and Italy etc. Africa was divided into different tribes and kingdoms during the Berlin conference, making Africans enemies.

* One similarity between these two turning points is that the rights of the people that were colonize by the European countries decrease. A simple difference is that these two events occured in different ages, and that their causes were different too.
